Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor has called a special security meeting in Peshawar to assess the province’s wider security picture and the threat of terrorism. The gathering was held after an emergency was put in place earlier the same day.
Those taking part included members of the Council of Advisers, the chief secretary, the adviser for tribal and home affairs, the inspector general of police, senior police and Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials, and intelligence personnel.
Council told province remains calm after emergency
Members were briefed that conditions across the province stayed peaceful and normal following the emergency declared today. Attendees agreed to further bolster police, CTD and other law enforcement bodies in the fight against terrorism. They also decided that problems hampering the operational capacity of these agencies would be tackled as a priority.
Governor pledges support for security forces
The governor said he and his council would remain on hand to help police and security forces in every way possible. He added that the campaign against terrorism would carry on vigorously and resolutely, and that residents of the province would stand with the security personnel.
Participants also paid tribute to security personnel who had lost their lives in service to the country, and expressed solidarity with their families.
First provincial Apex Committee session set for tomorrow
Attendees also reaffirmed that the province’s people firmly rejected the Khawarij and those who support them. The governor has summoned the inaugural session of the provincial Apex Committee for tomorrow to examine the province’s overall security and terrorism risks.
