Security forces launched a targeted operation against India-backed Fitna al-Hindustan militants in Balochistan, resulting in the deaths of six militants during Operation Shaaban-II. The operation took place in the Saran Tangi area, where nine suspected individuals were also apprehended.
Based on intelligence inputs, the forces successfully neutralized the militants and recovered weapons and ammunition from their possession. This operation followed a deadly encounter in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu district, where six Pakistan Army personnel, including Captain Abuzar Farooq and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, were martyred during a firefight. In that clash, eight militants affiliated with the India-sponsored Fitna al-Khawarij group were killed.
Since the Afghan Taliban’s return to power in 2021, Pakistan has witnessed a significant surge in terrorist activities, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan. A recent report by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) identified these two provinces as the main hotspots for violence in Pakistan during the second quarter of 2026.
The report revealed that KP was the most affected province, accounting for over 61% of nationwide fatalities linked to violence, with 475 deaths recorded. Balochistan followed with 265 fatalities, representing 34% of the total. Together, these provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related deaths in the country during this period.
In terms of violent incidents, KP reported 151 cases, making up 57% of the total incidents across Pakistan, while Balochistan recorded 94 incidents, or 35%. These figures underscore the persistent concentration of militant violence in these two regions.
