NDMA Warns of Landslide Risks on Juglot-Skardu Road Amid Rainfall

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a landslide warning for the Juglot-Skardu Road (JSR) and the Skardu-Roundu stretch, urging tourists and travelers to avoid non-essential journeys over the next 48 hours due to elevated risks.

The National Emergency Operation Centre (NEOC) highlighted that persistent rainfall and soil erosion in northern regions are expected to trigger landslides between July 7 and July 9. Areas including Skardu and nearby localities such as Bromdo Nullah, Chamcho, Malupa, and the Dambodas-Tormik-Haramosh corridor are particularly vulnerable.

In a significant development, the NDMA noted that current weather patterns closely match earlier proactive forecasts issued by the NEOC. The agency warned that erosion in local streams combined with potential mudslides could further exacerbate hazardous travel conditions along these mountainous routes.

Local authorities have been instructed to enhance emergency preparedness measures to minimize disruptions and ensure swift response if incidents occur. Meanwhile, tourists and commuters are strongly advised to exercise heightened caution when navigating steep slopes and landslide-prone areas.

Additionally, the NDMA encouraged the public to download and use its official mobile app, ‘Pak NDMA Disaster Alert’, to receive real-time safety updates and verified guidance during this period.
