In a solemn address on Wednesday, Health Minister Mustafa Kamal vowed that all individuals responsible for the devastating fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), which resulted in the deaths of 14 newborn babies, would be held fully accountable. The minister emphasized the gravity of the tragedy, acknowledging that no amount of compensation could ever replace the precious lives lost in the incident.

The fire, which shocked the nation, has prompted an immediate and thorough investigation aimed at uncovering the causes and identifying those at fault. Kamal made it clear that the inquiry would be comprehensive, extending from the highest-ranking officials to the hospital staff directly involved in the incident. This approach underscores the government’s commitment to transparency and justice in the wake of the calamity.

In a significant development, the health minister took personal responsibility for the oversight, stating, “I present myself for accountability,” signaling a rare and serious commitment from a senior official. He assured the public that anyone found culpable would face strict consequences, reinforcing the message that negligence or misconduct in such critical settings would not be tolerated.

Meanwhile, the tragedy has sparked widespread concern about safety protocols in healthcare institutions across the country. Authorities are expected to review and strengthen fire safety measures to prevent such incidents from recurring. The incident at PIMS serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for stringent safeguards in hospitals, especially in units caring for the most vulnerable patients.
