Karachi Records 42°C as Heatwave Intensifies with No Rain Forecast

Karachi experienced a significant rise in temperature on Sunday, with the mercury reaching 42 degrees Celsius. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicated that sea breezes might return by evening, offering some relief from the intense heat.

Meanwhile, the PMD warned that temperatures are expected to climb even higher on Monday, with no rainfall anticipated in the city. This update follows a hot Saturday when the maximum temperature was recorded at 38.5°C.

In a significant development, the PMD had earlier predicted that temperatures could hit 40°C on Sunday and rise further to 41°C on Monday. The department also forecasted that heatwave conditions would continue until May 3.

Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham emphasized the importance of precautionary measures, urging the public to protect vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and animals. He advised residents to limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours to avoid heat-related health risks.

Zaigham also mentioned that westerly winds were expected to influence the region after this period, potentially bringing temporary relief by reducing the heat intensity. However, he cautioned that the overall outlook for May and June remains severe, with intense heatwaves likely across Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, as temperatures are projected to stay above normal levels.
