Sam Champion, the well-known meteorologist from New York City, recently underwent essential heart surgery and is expected to return to his role on “Good Morning America” (GMA) following his recovery. The update came after Champion had a cardiac catheterization procedure at Mount Sinai Medical Center’s Fuster Heart Hospital.

In an Instagram live session, Champion announced that he would discuss his treatment in detail with ABC’s chief medical correspondent, Dr. Tara Narula, once he resumes his duties on GMA on Wednesday, March 25. Reflecting on his experience, he revealed that the condition was more serious than he initially thought.

Champion expressed confidence that the diagnostic test performed likely saved his life, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. During the procedure, doctors inserted two stents after accessing his heart, addressing the underlying issues. Despite undergoing numerous tests, he continued to experience symptoms, which made the diagnosis challenging.

At 64 years old, the former Weather Channel personality praised the medical team and the procedure, stating he could not have asked for a better outcome. He encouraged others to prioritize regular medical checkups and be vigilant about symptoms such as shortness of breath, arm pain, dizziness, or disorientation, urging people to be proactive in discussing these signs with their doctors.

Champion has previously raised awareness about health issues, notably when he had basal cell carcinoma removed live on GMA in May 2010. On the Sunday following his heart procedure, he shared a photo from his hospital bed with a hopeful message about his recovery.

Born on August 13, 1961, Sam Champion is a distinguished American meteorologist and television personality. He is best known for his long tenure as the weather anchor for ABC’s GMA and WABC-TV. Throughout his career, he has earned four Emmy Awards and served as managing editor for The Weather Channel, gaining recognition for his extensive climate coverage.
