FBR Proposes Incentive Scheme for Traders Filing Taxes by September 30

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is exploring the introduction of a gift incentive program aimed at traders who submit their tax returns by the deadline of September 30. This initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance tax compliance among the trading community, which has historically shown reluctance in timely tax filings. By offering rewards, the FBR hopes to motivate more traders to fulfill their tax obligations promptly, thereby increasing overall revenue collection.

Tax compliance remains a critical challenge for Pakistan’s fiscal health, with a significant portion of the economy operating in the informal sector. The proposed gift scheme could serve as a strategic tool to bring more traders into the formal tax net, improving transparency and accountability. Such measures align with the government’s ongoing reforms to broaden the tax base and reduce the fiscal deficit.

In a significant development, the FBR’s consideration of this scheme reflects a shift towards more innovative and incentive-based approaches to tax administration. If implemented, it could set a precedent for future policies aimed at encouraging voluntary compliance. Meanwhile, traders are expected to respond positively to these incentives, potentially leading to higher tax filings before the September 30 deadline.
