Pakistan’s comprehensive reforms in taxation, digital economy, and trade have significantly enhanced the ease of doing business, resulting in substantial improvements in revenue collection and financial digitisation. These efforts have modernised the tax system, expanded digital payment platforms, and upgraded trade mechanisms.

In the fiscal year 2025, these reforms contributed to a 26 percent increase in tax revenue. Over 34,000 taxpayers have been integrated into online billing systems, while the deployment of digital machines has boosted the efficiency of tax collection. The adoption of artificial intelligence tools has further aided in detecting tax evasion, enabling the recovery of billions of rupees from various industrial sectors.

Under the broader “Digital Pakistan” initiative, digital payment systems and online financial services have been extended nationwide. The Raast instant payment system now connects an additional 50 million users and 1.1 million businesses, raising the total user base to approximately 130 million.

Government institutions, including NADRA and other departments, have introduced online payment facilities that have simplified fee payments and public transactions for citizens, enhancing convenience and accessibility.

In a significant policy development, the government unveiled the National Tariff Policy 2025–30, which aims to implement structural reforms in trade and tariff frameworks. This policy is designed to lower tariffs, modernise trade procedures, and foster a more favorable environment for business operations and export growth.

Officials highlight that these tax, digital, and trade reforms are crucial in promoting transparency, stimulating economic activity, and strengthening Pakistan’s overall business climate.
