A blast in northern Israel, close to the Lebanese border, has injured around 20 people, and preliminary indications point to unexploded ordnance as the cause. The explosion took place on Monday morning, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called off a planned visit to the occupied West Bank after reports of the blast.
Casualties treated and location of the blast
Israel’s Magen David Adom said paramedics were treating eight casualties in serious or moderate condition, along with several others with mild injuries. Police said the explosion happened near the community of Neot Mordechai, between Kibbutz Manara and Kibbutz Yiftach.
Police cordon and bomb disposal investigation
Officers from the Kiryat Shmona station in the Northern District are at the scene, securing the area and sealing it off. Bomb disposal experts are examining how the explosion occurred and what set it off.
