The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has announced that the Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) for 2026 will take place on Sunday, September 20. The exam will be conducted in 34 cities throughout Pakistan and at an international testing center located in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Originally planned for August 16, the test was postponed to September 20 following instructions from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Prime Minister directed the authorities to ensure the examination is conducted with greater transparency and improved organization.
In a significant development, the PMDC revealed that a total of 138,160 candidates have registered nationwide for the MDCAT. Punjab leads with 49,199 registrants, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 38,841 and Sindh with 34,233 candidates. Balochistan has 9,923 registered candidates, Azad Jammu and Kashmir 2,761, Gilgit-Baltistan 1,721, and Islamabad 1,245. Additionally, 237 candidates will appear at the Riyadh center.
The council has prepared distinct question papers for each province, with at least two different versions per province to maintain exam integrity. Each paper will contain 180 questions.
Meanwhile, the IBA Testing Services (STS) announced a key update regarding identification requirements. The previously mandatory Juvenile Card has been removed for MDCAT 2026. Candidates without this card may now present their original photograph-bearing marksheet instead. Valid identity documents accepted at the examination centers include original Matric or Intermediate marksheets with photographs.
