India and the West Indies settled for a 2-2 draw in their five-match Twenty20 series after rain ended Saturday’s deciding match at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium after just 48 minutes.
Play began 1 hour and 45 minutes late and the match was reduced to nine overs a side. India reached 118-5 in 7.4 overs when the rain returned, and the umpires called off play, with not even a five-overs-a-side contest possible.
Ishan Kishan and Naman Dhir lead India’s batting display
The stadium was hosting its first international since the October 2024 Test between India and New Zealand, and more than 20,000 fans turned out despite the weather. After West Indies captain Shai Hope put India in to bat, Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson and Naman Dhir led the way. Dhir finished unbeaten on 24 off six balls.
India hit eight fours and seven sixes in their shortened innings. Kishan brought up the 100th six of the series by hitting Romario Shepherd over long leg and out of the stadium.
Second downpour ends hopes of a decisive result
The skies opened again, washing away any prospect of a decisive outcome.
