Tilak Varma run-out leaves Gambhir frustrated in Indore

India vice-captain Tilak Varma was dismissed in an unusual run-out during the third T20I against the West Indies at Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday, October 11. Head coach Gautam Gambhir was seen looking frustrated in the dugout as the incident unfolded.

Tilak Varma run-out at Holkar Stadium

The episode came on the fourth ball of the 17th over, when Motie bowled a low full toss on the pads. Axar Patel flicked it towards deep backward square leg, and West Indies fielder Kamil Pooran dived to stop it reaching the boundary. Both Indian batters seemed to assume the ball had already gone over the rope.

Without hurrying, the pair began walking towards their ends. Motie gathered the return throw and removed the stumps at the non-striker’s end. Axar made his ground, but Varma was well short of his crease. The third umpire later confirmed that the ball had remained in play.

India defend 223 to take series lead

Led by Shreyas Iyer, India defended their total of 223 to win by 14 runs and move into a 2-1 lead in the five-match series. Abhishek Sharma’s explosive 69 from just 30 deliveries, after India were asked to bat first, helped the side post a demanding score.

The bowlers then held their nerve, denying the visitors a successful chase.
