Barcelona extended their winning start to the La Liga season on Saturday, defeating Getafe 3-0 at Camp Nou. Anthony Gordon struck his first goal for the club in the second minute, and the Spanish champions dominated much of the contest.
Gabriel Jesus and Jules Kounde added the other two goals, leaving the league leaders with a flawless record so far this campaign. Barca now sit five points ahead of second-placed Atletico Madrid, who earlier won 2-1 at Alaves. Fourth-placed Real Madrid trail by nine points and host Villarreal later.
Gordon’s deflected strike sparks Barcelona’s first-half display
Gordon, who has impressed since arriving before the current season, finished from a low, deflected effort after muscling his way past three players. He was Barcelona’s liveliest attacker in the opening half, carrying the sharp finishing he showed for England in the recent Nations League matches into this fixture.
Eric Garcia also forced a save from Getafe goalkeeper David Soria with a long-range drive, as Flick’s side kept firm control.
Raphinha’s absence opens the door for Jesus
Barcelona were without their leading scorer Raphinha, who picked up a hamstring problem during the international break with Brazil. Flick selected former Arsenal striker Jesus, a fellow Brazil international, in his place.
Jesus doubled the lead after Getafe defender Zaid Romero gave the ball away inside his own box, leaving the Brazilian with a simple finish into the bottom corner.
Kounde’s milestone and Barca’s nine-win run
Kounde turned home from close range after a cross from teenager Lamine Yamal, following a save from Soria that denied Olmo. The France defender made his 194th appearance for Barcelona, a record for a French player, overtaking Eric Abidal.
Barcelona had already won their Champions League opener and have now recorded nine victories from nine matches across all competitions this season.
