National javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem was unable to secure a medal in the men’s javelin throw final at the Asian Games held at Paloma Mizuho Sports Park on Monday. His compatriot Yasir Sultan also fell short, failing to advance to the final round.
Yasir Sultan’s best throw measured 73.50 metres during his initial three attempts, which was insufficient to qualify for the final stage. Meanwhile, Arshad Nadeem progressed to the final after ranking among the top eight competitors.
Coming off a ninth-place finish at the Commonwealth Games last month and unable to defend his previous gold medal, Nadeem opened with a throw of 76.69 metres. His second attempt was declared a foul, but he responded with his best effort of the season on the third try, reaching 80.29 metres.
Despite this strong performance, Nadeem’s distance was not enough to claim a podium position. He finished behind India’s Rohit Yadav, who secured the bronze medal with a throw of 84.35 metres. India also took the silver medal through Yash Vir Singh, who achieved a personal best of 85.72 metres.
In a significant development, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage captured the gold medal with an impressive throw of 88.55 metres, dominating the event.
