Security forces eliminated five India-backed terrorists and wounded two others during a targeted operation against militant hideouts in North Waziristan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The operation focused on militant strongholds in North Waziristan and adjacent areas, underscoring the commitment of security agencies to eradicate terrorism and restore lasting peace in the region.

In a significant development, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif lauded the security forces for their successful mission against the militants. The president emphasized that these effective operations are crucial in countering the malicious plans of terrorist groups. He affirmed that actions against Fitna al-Khawarij would persist until terrorism is completely eradicated.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif echoed this resolve, stating that decisive measures have been taken to foil the designs of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists. He reiterated that operations targeting terrorist outfits will continue relentlessly until the threat of terrorism is fully eliminated.

This operation follows a recent intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Dera Ismail Khan district, KP, where security forces killed three Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists. The IBO was conducted under the Azm-e-Istehkam initiative. Just a day earlier, eight militants, including three key commanders of Fitna al-Khawarij, were killed in another IBO in the same district. These operations were launched following intelligence reports confirming the presence of Fitna al-Khawarij terrorists in the area.

Pakistan has experienced a notable surge in cross-border terrorist incidents, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban regained control in 2021. September 2026 marked the highest monthly number of militant attacks in 12 years, with 225 incidents recorded nationwide, a 13% increase from 199 attacks in August. This rise represents the third consecutive month of increasing militant activity.

Islamabad has persistently urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used as a base for militant groups launching attacks inside Pakistan. However, Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have not taken sufficient action against groups responsible for assaults on Pakistani security forces and civilians. Kabul disputes this claim. Despite multiple rounds of dialogue, the two sides have yet to resolve their differences, with the issue of militant groups operating from Afghan soil remaining a significant point of contention.
