Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir visited Corps Headquarters in Peshawar on Tuesday, receiving a detailed briefing on the security landscape in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The update covered ongoing counterterrorism operations, border security measures, and the readiness of military units deployed in the area.
This briefing followed a deadly assault on Kohat’s old Police Lines, where 23 people were killed and over 100 injured. The attackers used a vehicle packed with explosives near a mosque during Friday prayers before storming the police compound. The clearance operation ended with eight terrorists killed.
During his visit, Field Marshal Munir commended the high morale, preparedness, and professionalism of the officers and soldiers. He praised their dedication to safeguarding the nation and urged them to maintain constant vigilance and peak operational readiness.
He emphasized the armed forces’ commitment to eradicating terrorism with the nation’s unwavering support and reaffirmed their resolve to achieve lasting peace and stability throughout the country.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident on Sunday in Hangu district, eight militants were killed during a firefight with security forces, which resulted in the martyrdom of six soldiers, including two officers. Captain Abuzar Farooq, aged 23 from Gujranwala, and Lieutenant Sheraz Babar, aged 22 from Chakwal, were among those who lost their lives in the intense clash.
In a solemn gesture, Field Marshal Munir visited the Martyrs’ Memorial at Corps Headquarters, laying a floral wreath to honor those who sacrificed their lives defending the country and combating terrorism. He offered Fateha and paid tribute to the martyrs, stating their sacrifices will never be forgotten.
Upon arrival in Peshawar, the army chief was welcomed by the Corps Commander. His visit underscores the military’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and support peace initiatives in the region.
