A fire erupted at a K-Electric grid station near Baloch Colony Bridge in Karachi on Tuesday, leading to power disruptions in multiple neighborhoods. The blaze was brought under control after nearly an hour of intense firefighting efforts, the city’s chief fire officer.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan explained that the fire originated in three panels at the grid station, where fuel tanks were positioned above the affected equipment. Upon arrival, firefighters faced flames reaching heights of 30 to 40 feet. Fortunately, no casualties were reported during the incident.
To combat the fire, eight fire tenders and two water bowsers were deployed. The fire brigade classified the incident as a third-degree fire, necessitating a robust response. Following containment, firefighters continued cooling operations to prevent any flare-ups.
Water from nearby hydrants was also utilized to support the firefighting efforts. The exact cause of the fire remains unknown, with officials planning a thorough investigation once the cooling process is complete.
Meanwhile, the fire caused significant power outages affecting Mahmoodabad and areas surrounding PECHS Society, creating challenges for local residents. Electricity supply from the grid station was suspended in several adjacent localities as a precautionary measure.
Officials anticipate completing the cooling operations soon, after which they will assess the condition of the damaged equipment and determine the fire’s origin. The situation remains under close monitoring to restore normal power supply promptly.
