In a significant development aimed at revitalizing parliamentary functions, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday appealed to opposition parties to return to the parliamentary standing committees. He emphasized that their active involvement is crucial for reinforcing the legislative process and ensuring the parliament operates effectively.

Bilawal made these remarks during a press conference held at the Parliament House following his meetings with key opposition figures, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, the opposition leader in the Senate. The discussions highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts among political parties to strengthen democratic institutions.

Notably, Bilawal underscored the PPP’s longstanding respect for parliamentary procedures and expressed hope that opposition parties would reconsider their ongoing boycott of parliamentary committees. He stressed, “For parliament to be functional, standing committees must be functional,” pointing out that the opposition’s participation in these committees is vital for a balanced and effective legislative process.

Meanwhile, Bilawal also called for enhanced dialogue among political parties, urging them to engage constructively, especially on critical issues such as electoral reforms. He invited opposition members to join hands in parliament to work on improving the electoral system, emphasizing that collaborative efforts are essential for meaningful progress. This appeal comes at a time when political consensus is seen as key to addressing electoral challenges and strengthening democratic governance in Pakistan.
