    NCCIA Summons Four Over Defamatory Social Media Posts Targeting Sharjeel Memon

    The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has issued summons to four individuals accused of sharing false and defamatory content targeting Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon on various digital and social media platforms.

    This action follows a formal complaint filed by Memon’s legal representative concerning the circulation of fabricated material through social media accounts. The NCCIA has directed Syed Abdullah to appear before the agency on August 13. Meanwhile, Amin Qureshi has been summoned to present himself along with his digital device and original computerized national identity card. Notices have also been served to Bilal bin Nasrullah for allegedly sharing defamatory content, and Karachi resident Ubaid Qureshi has been called in for questioning.

    The complaint alleges that these four individuals are among those responsible for disseminating misleading and damaging information online. In a significant development, the NCCIA has launched a forensic audit of the implicated social media accounts. Notably, an administrator of a Facebook page linked to a campaign concerning the Mir Raza case has issued an apology to Sharjeel Memon.

    The cybercrime agency continues to investigate additional suspects believed to be involved in the coordinated online campaign, working to identify all parties responsible for spreading the defamatory material.

    The controversy centers around the Mir Raza Ali case, which has attracted renewed attention after his family disputed the initial suicide theory. Raza disappeared on July 28, with his body found the next day near Gulistan-e-Jauhar. While early reports connected his death to financial struggles and monetary disputes, the family raised doubts about the circumstances. Subsequently, a court ordered the exhumation of Raza’s body at Tariq Road graveyard for examination by a medical board. The post-mortem revealed he had been shot in the back and showed signs of torture, intensifying calls for a murder investigation.

    In response to the social media backlash, Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon filed a complaint with the NCCIA on August 9. He alleged a coordinated campaign targeting both him and his son, Rawal Memon, in relation to the case. The complaint named several Facebook pages purportedly involved in spreading false and defamatory allegations and requested a forensic examination of the accounts, including IP addresses, device data, and possible funding or coordination networks.

    Memon has publicly denied multiple circulating claims and urged an independent inquiry under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).
