In a significant development aimed at enhancing government accountability and public service delivery, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Azhar Kayani convened a Khuli Kachehri, or public hearing, at the District Council Hall in Jhelum on Saturday. This session provided a platform for citizens to voice their grievances directly to government officials, marking a notable step toward responsive governance in the region.

The hearing lasted more than three hours, during which Kayani attentively listened to complaints and concerns raised by over 400 residents. The event was supported by senior officials from the district administration, police, and various government departments, highlighting a coordinated effort to address local issues effectively. This initiative reflects a broader push by the government to strengthen ties between the public and administrative bodies.

Addressing the attendees, Kayani announced plans to institutionalize these public hearings by holding them monthly. He also revealed that similar sessions would soon be organized in the tehsils of Dina and Sohawa, ensuring that residents in these areas have direct access to government representatives. This approach aims to foster better communication, transparency, and quicker resolution of public problems.

The minister emphasized that the current leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, is committed to utilizing all available resources to serve the public effectively. He noted that Jhelum is currently experiencing unprecedented development activities, alongside improvements in the mechanisms designed to address citizens’ complaints more efficiently. The public reception to this first-ever Khuli Kachehri in Jhelum was overwhelmingly positive, with residents expressing appreciation for the minister’s proactive engagement and outreach efforts.
