Pakistan has voiced serious concern over the intensifying conflict in the Middle East, highlighting the fragile security situation and the potential for further escalation. At the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, emphasized that the recent surge in violence underscores the dangers of a fragile ceasefire and the severe consequences that could follow.

He stressed that the ongoing cycle of violence and instability must be halted to safeguard regional and global peace, security, and prosperity. The ambassador also pointed out that the breakdown in diplomatic efforts and the outbreak of hostilities have complicated the Iran nuclear issue, widening the gap between parties and disrupting the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) verification process.

Reiterating Pakistan’s stance, Ambassador Asim affirmed that all outstanding matters, including the Iran nuclear dossier, should be addressed through peaceful means, sustained diplomatic engagement, and dialogue grounded in the rights and responsibilities of all involved parties.

In a significant development, Pakistan has been actively involved in diplomatic initiatives aimed at de-escalating tensions, securing a ceasefire, and encouraging negotiations. The country has maintained ongoing communication with regional and international stakeholders such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkiye, Qatar, and China to foster dialogue and promote stability.

Ambassador Asim highlighted that Pakistan’s efforts are focused on halting hostilities, preserving lives, and allowing diplomacy to prevail. These actions reflect Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to regional stability and a principled approach centered on dialogue.

As negotiations reach a critical juncture, the ambassador called on all parties to exercise patience and restraint, urging them to “give peace a little more chance.” He underscored that sustained diplomatic engagement remains the most viable path toward achieving lasting peace in the region.
