Iran Highlights Pakistan’s Role in US Talks, Links Deal to Lebanon Ceasefire

Iran has reaffirmed Pakistan’s ongoing role as a mediator in its negotiations with the United States, emphasizing that any agreement reached must incorporate a ceasefire in Lebanon as a fundamental element. This was stated by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei during a recent press briefing.

Baghaei underscored Tehran’s commitment to diplomacy while stressing that Iran remains fully prepared to defend itself if necessary. He highlighted that diplomacy has always been Iran’s priority, but the country maintains the right to respond to any attacks against it.

Notably, Baghaei pointed out that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential and inseparable part of any future understanding with Washington. He clarified that current discussions do not involve Iran’s nuclear program.

The spokesperson accused the United States of breaching the ceasefire through aggressive military actions, stating that Iranian forces targeted locations from which US attacks were launched. He described these strikes as acts of self-defense and reiterated Iran’s right to retaliate against any assaults on its territory or interests.

Baghaei also urged regional countries to prevent their lands, facilities, or resources from being used to launch attacks against other nations, warning that such activities could further destabilize the region.

Regarding diplomatic efforts, he confirmed that Pakistan continues to act as a mediator in the talks between Tehran and Washington. He described a recent visit by Iran’s negotiating team to Qatar as positive, noting that discussions included financial aspects related to a potential agreement aimed at resolving the conflict.

In a related appeal, Baghaei called on Kuwaiti authorities to clarify the status of four Iranian citizens reportedly detained in Kuwait, requesting prompt information about their situation.

These remarks come amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, alongside ongoing diplomatic initiatives seeking a broader understanding on regional security challenges.
