Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan completed a week-long visit to Pakistan on Tuesday, concluding a series of official meetings and community engagements designed to reinforce the relationship between Pakistan and the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN).

As the 50th hereditary Imam of Shia Ismaili Muslims, Prince Rahim departed from Islamabad’s Nur Khan Airbase. He was seen off by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry along with other senior officials, who presented him with a commemorative photo album capturing significant moments from his journey throughout the country.

The visit, which commenced on May 20, featured meetings with President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. Additionally, Prince Rahim traveled to northern areas including Hunza, Gojal, Ghizer, and Chitral.

During his tour, he held “Didar” sessions with members of the Ismaili community and evaluated various development initiatives supported by AKDN. These projects focus on education, healthcare, rural development, and community welfare, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

At the farewell event, Federal Minister Tariq Fazal Chaudhry lauded AKDN’s enduring contribution to Pakistan’s social and economic progress. He emphasized that the network’s efforts in education, health services, and community support have played a vital role in enhancing living standards across multiple areas of the country.

Chaudhry highlighted the government’s strong appreciation for AKDN’s welfare, educational, and economic programs. He expressed optimism that Prince Rahim’s visit would deepen cooperation between Pakistan and AKDN, opening new avenues for collaboration in development and humanitarian efforts.

Officials underscored the partnership between Pakistan and AKDN as a key element in sustainable development strategies, especially in regions that face significant challenges due to their remoteness.

AKDN is recognized as one of Pakistan’s principal development partners, implementing projects that span healthcare, education, cultural preservation, disaster management, and rural support initiatives nationwide.
