JI Submits Contempt Petition Against NEPRA Over Karachi Loadshedding

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) has formally submitted a contempt of court petition against the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) concerning the ongoing loadshedding in Karachi. The petition accuses NEPRA of failing to comply with court directives aimed at ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the city. Karachi, Pakistan’s largest metropolis, has been grappling with frequent power outages, severely impacting daily life and economic activities.

In a significant development, this legal move underscores the growing frustration among political parties and citizens over the persistent electricity shortages. NEPRA, as the regulatory body responsible for overseeing power distribution and tariff regulation, faces increasing scrutiny for its role in managing the energy crisis. The petition reflects broader concerns about governance and accountability in Pakistan’s energy sector.

Meanwhile, Karachi’s residents continue to endure extended hours of power cuts, which affect businesses, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions. The case could set a precedent for stricter enforcement of court orders related to public utilities. This confrontation between JI and NEPRA highlights the urgent need for sustainable solutions to Pakistan’s chronic energy challenges.
