Pakistan and China Strengthen Security and Investment Cooperation

In a significant move to reinforce the enduring “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership,” Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held high-level talks with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong at the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad’s Diplomatic Enclave.

The discussions centered on intensifying counter-terrorism collaboration and improving security protocols for Chinese nationals working throughout Pakistan. This underscores Islamabad’s ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety of foreign partners involved in key strategic projects.

In a notable development, the Interior Minister announced the creation of a Special Protection Unit (SPU) dedicated to the security of foreign nationals, with a particular focus on Chinese citizens residing in the capital. This initiative marks a new phase of enhanced protection and economic cooperation between the two countries.

The SPU will receive specialised training, including instruction in the Chinese language, to improve communication and operational efficiency. Meanwhile, both sides agreed to organize a comprehensive business conference designed to facilitate smoother investment flows.

The conference will be implemented in two stages: initially engaging directly with Chinese companies already operating in Pakistan, followed by outreach to potential investors interested in entering the Pakistani market.

This diplomatic engagement comes shortly after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with Ambassador Jiang, where they reaffirmed their dedication to advancing Phase II of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). The upcoming phase is expected to prioritize agricultural modernisation, industrial growth, and the enhancement of vital infrastructure.

As Pakistan and China approach the 75th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, both nations emphasize fostering regional stability while pursuing reforms aimed at attracting sustained international investment.
