PM Shehbaz Sharif Affirms Support for Gulf Allies Amid Middle East Crisis, Warns of Rising Oil Costs

In a solemn address to the nation on Monday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for its Gulf allies as the Middle East faces escalating turmoil following recent US and Israeli military actions targeting Iran. Highlighting the gravity of the situation, the premier described the region as being engulfed in a “severe warlike situation,” underscoring the widespread concern over threats to regional peace and stability.

Shehbaz Sharif emphasized that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East not only affects the immediate countries involved but also has far-reaching implications for global security and economic conditions. He stressed the importance of resolving such disputes through peaceful diplomatic channels rather than military confrontation, reflecting Pakistan’s longstanding policy of advocating dialogue and negotiation in regional matters.

Turning to Pakistan’s own security challenges, the prime minister reminded the nation that the country continues to grapple with terrorism threats along its western borders. He praised the resilience and commitment of the Pakistani armed forces, saluting their dedication in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and maintaining internal stability amid these complex regional dynamics.

In a gesture of solidarity, the prime minister expressed heartfelt condolences to the Iranian people on the passing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, referring to it as a moment of profound grief and sorrow. He extended Pakistan’s sympathies to the Iranian nation, recognizing the significance of this loss during such a turbulent period.

Furthermore, Shehbaz Sharif hinted at the economic repercussions that the ongoing Middle East crisis could have on Pakistan, particularly regarding energy supplies. He cautioned that the instability might lead to an increase in oil prices, which would inevitably impact the country’s economy and the daily lives of its citizens. This warning serves as a reminder of Pakistan’s vulnerability to global energy market fluctuations, especially given its reliance on imports from the Gulf region.

As tensions continue to rise, the prime minister’s remarks highlight Pakistan’s strategic balancing act—maintaining strong ties with Gulf nations while advocating for peace and stability in a region critical to its economic and security interests. The government’s stance reflects a broader commitment to regional harmony, emphasizing dialogue over conflict, and preparedness in the face of emerging challenges.
