The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency’s Multan Circle has returned Rs2 million to a citizen who said the money was taken from his bank account after his mobile phone was hacked.
The complainant, Adeel Haris Siddiqui, said he went to the NCCIA in Multan after discovering that Rs2 million had been withdrawn from his account. He said the agency acted quickly on his complaint and helped recover the stolen sum.
Agency says recovery aims to curb financial fraud
According to the NCCIA, the case is part of its wider effort to protect citizens from financial fraud and help victims recover money lost to cybercrime.
Helpline 15 now linked directly to the NCCIA
The police and the Cyber Crime Intelligence Agency have linked Police Helpline 15 with the NCCIA as a joint step to prevent cybercrime. Under the arrangement, every complaint received on the helpline will be transferred directly to the NCCIA.
The agency’s Director General said the Helpline 15 systems of police forces in all provinces and major cities have been integrated with the NCCIA’s system. Cybercrime complaints will be forwarded automatically to the relevant NCCIA zone, which will take immediate legal action on receipt.
Faster action expected on cyber harassment and fraud
Citizens can now register complaints through the emergency 15 system. The initiative is meant to make it easier for the public to report offences and to improve coordination between the police and the NCCIA.
According to the announcement, speedy action will now be taken against cyber harassment, online fraud and data theft. Officials say the new system will make it far more convenient for citizens to register their complaints.
