Police in Karachi have recovered the bodies of five people from a house in the Bin Qasim area of Malir. The dead include a married couple, the husband’s sister and two young girls, officials said.
Police identified the victims as Shahzaib, his wife Saba, his sister Shumaila and the two girls. Investigators said Shahzaib had earlier sold his home in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and was living in a rented house inside a private housing society.
Suicide note and locked doors at the scene
Initial findings suggest that Shahzaib may have taken his own life. Police said a suicide note was found inside the property. Officers had to open the locked doors to reach the bodies.
Suspected poisoning and gunshot wounds under examination
The two girls and Shumaila were found lying on a bed, and police suspect the children may have been poisoned. However, the exact cause of death has not been confirmed. A crime scene unit has been summoned to gather evidence and support the forensic inquiry.
Shahzaib and Saba were found on a sofa, with apparent gunshot wounds to their heads, according to police. A pistol was reportedly recovered from Saba’s lap.
Sindh IG orders impartial probe into the deaths
Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho has asked the Deputy Inspector General of Police, East Zone, for a detailed report on the incident. He directed officers to carry out a transparent and impartial investigation to establish what caused the deaths.
The provincial police chief also ordered evidence to be collected from the scene and all legal and forensic steps to be completed. He instructed officials to determine urgently whether any criminal elements were involved, and to keep him regularly updated on the progress of the inquiry.
