Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered authorities to speed up work on the Chief Minister’s E-Bike Scheme now that applications have closed. According to official figures, a total exceeding 607,000 students sent in their completed forms.
The scheme’s online portal drew more than 1.3 million registrations, though far fewer finished the application process. Officials said verification and selection are due to be completed in October, after which successful applicants will be picked through a transparent balloting process.
Scheme terms, costs and driving training
Under the scheme, 100,000 young people will receive electric bikes through the ballot, with monthly instalments fixed at Rs3,000. The Punjab government will cover the interest and insurance costs.
On the chief minister’s instructions, successful female applicants will also get free driving training. Nawaz said the provincial government would give young people, particularly female students, the resources they need to get ahead. She added that e-bikes would make travel easier and help students cut their monthly spending.
Nawaz also said that every young person in the province is especially important to her.
