Balochistan anti-corruption body summons irrigation minister’s son over fund irregularities

The Balochistan Anti-Corruption Establishment has summoned Bilal Umrani, son of Provincial Irrigation Minister Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, for questioning regarding alleged irregularities in the development and non-development funds of the provincial Irrigation Department.

Bilal Umrani, who is chairman of the Market Committee in Naseerabad, has been directed to appear before the Anti-Corruption Establishment at its Circle Office in Quetta on October 20, 2026, at 11:30 am, according to a call-up notice issued under Section 160 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898.

Investigation into alleged fund misuse in irrigation department

The notice states that a complaint is under investigation concerning alleged irregularities, embezzlement, corrupt practices, and misuse of authority by officers and officials of the Canal Irrigation System in Balochistan related to development and non-development funds.

The Anti-Corruption Establishment has instructed Bilal Umrani to appear before the inquiry officer regarding the matter and warned that failure to comply with the summons may lead to legal consequences under the law.

Balochistan government’s stance on corruption and job-selling

The summons comes amid the provincial government’s efforts to combat corruption and irregularities in public departments. Last month, officials pledged to prevent the buying and selling of government jobs following directives from Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti.

Bugti warned in a Secretaries Committee meeting that no government job would be sold in the province and that credible evidence of job-selling would result in the removal of the responsible minister or secretary.

In a statement on X, the chief minister reaffirmed that government jobs would not be sold and that the provincial cabinet and chief secretary supported this position. He also ordered a high-level inquiry into recruitment irregularities in the Forest Department, promising consequences for those found responsible after an impartial investigation.
