Security forces successfully thwarted a terrorist attempt to disrupt traffic on the N-25 highway near Kalat, eliminating five militants and rescuing 23 hostages. The terrorists had set up a checkpoint on the highway to abduct travelers, extort money, and seize vehicles.
In response, security personnel launched a swift operation that resulted in the deaths of five terrorists. Authorities also recovered a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives from the militants’ hideout. Additionally, six trucks, three buses, and two cars were retrieved from the scene.
This operation is part of intensified security measures under Operation Raddul Fitna 3, targeting militant groups across Balochistan. On the same day, security forces killed 11 terrorists believed to be backed by India during separate operations in Panjgur and Chagai districts. Five militants were neutralized in Gowargo, Panjgur, while six were eliminated in Ameenabad and Siah Chang areas of Chagai. Weapons and ammunition were also seized during these operations.
Balochistan continues to be a focal point for militant violence, prompting repeated intelligence-driven actions by security agencies throughout the province. In a related incident, terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device targeting a passenger vehicle on College Road in Kharan, injuring 10 laborers. The injured were promptly transported to a hospital by security forces.
These recent operations follow a series of counter-terrorism efforts, including a notable campaign on September 4, during which 48 terrorists were killed across Balochistan within 72 hours. Since 2021, following the return of the Afghan Taliban to power, Pakistan has experienced a rise in terrorist activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Balochistan.
A report from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) highlights that KP and Balochistan remained the primary regions affected by violence in the second quarter of 2026. Together, these provinces accounted for nearly 96% of all violence-related deaths nationwide during this period. KP recorded over 61% (475) of fatalities, while Balochistan accounted for 34% (265). KP also reported the highest number of violent incidents with 151 cases, representing 57% of the country’s total, followed by Balochistan with 94 incidents, or 35%, underscoring the concentration of militant activity in these areas.
