Pakistan Senate Unites in Strong Condemnation of Afghan Cross-Border Hostilities

In a unanimous decision on Friday, Pakistan’s Senate strongly condemned the recent cross-border hostilities originating from Afghan territory, describing these acts as blatant violations of international law and diplomatic protocols. The resolution, introduced by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted in the presence of Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, highlighted the gravity of these unprovoked aggressions and underscored Pakistan’s unwavering stance on protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The Senate’s declaration emphasized that any infringement on Pakistan’s national security or territorial boundaries would be perceived as a direct challenge to the nation’s dignity and would be met with a firm, measured, and decisive response. This united stance reflects the collective resolve of Pakistan’s lawmakers to safeguard the country’s borders against any form of external hostility. The House also took the opportunity to commend the valor, dedication, and sacrifices of Pakistan’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies, recognizing their continuous vigilance and commitment to defending the nation’s frontiers under challenging circumstances.

Reflecting on Pakistan’s long-standing relationship with Afghanistan, the Senate expressed deep regret over the burdens the country has borne for more than four decades. Pakistan has hosted millions of Afghan refugees, provided extensive humanitarian aid, supported peace initiatives, and consistently advocated for stability in Afghanistan on international platforms. These efforts, while noble, have come at a substantial cost to Pakistan’s own economic development and internal security, a reality that the resolution brought into sharp focus.

Despite these considerable contributions, the Senate voiced disappointment over the lack of reciprocal goodwill from the Afghan side. It pointed to a disturbing pattern of hostile rhetoric, repeated cross-border violations, and the continued presence of anti-Pakistan militant groups operating from Afghan soil. These developments, the resolution noted, undermine bilateral agreements and threaten the fragile peace in the region, creating an atmosphere of mistrust and insecurity.

In response, the Senate demanded that the Afghan Taliban government immediately halt all aggressive activities, prevent the use of Afghan territory as a base for terrorism or hostile operations against Pakistan, and fulfill its international commitments to peaceful coexistence. At the same time, Pakistan reaffirmed its dedication to constructive dialogue, regional harmony, and mutually respectful relations with Afghanistan. However, the resolution also issued a stern warning that Pakistan’s patience should not be mistaken for weakness, nor its pursuit of stability be seen as an inability to respond effectively to threats.

Moreover, the Senate called on the international community to take serious notice of the escalating tensions and urged Afghan authorities to adhere strictly to international norms to avoid further destabilization in the region. The resolution concluded by emphasizing that Pakistan’s political spectrum remains united in defending the country’s sovereignty and fully supports all necessary measures undertaken by the state to protect its territorial integrity and national honor.

This resolution comes amid rising security concerns along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where recent weeks have seen a resurgence of cross-border incidents. The Senate’s unified voice sends a clear message that Pakistan is resolute in its defense and committed to pursuing peace, but will not tolerate any acts that threaten its national security or regional stability.
