Pakistan Senate Unites in Strong Condemnation of Afghan Cross-Border Hostilities

In a unanimous decision on Friday, Pakistan’s Senate took a firm stance against the recent cross-border hostilities originating from Afghanistan, condemning these acts as clear violations of international law and diplomatic protocols. The resolution, introduced by Senator Sherry Rehman and adopted in the presence of Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, highlighted the gravity of the situation and the Senate’s collective commitment to safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

The resolution explicitly stated that any infringement on Pakistan’s sovereignty or security would be viewed as a direct challenge to the country’s dignity and would provoke a resolute and proportionate response from the state. This strong language underlines the seriousness with which Pakistan views these incursions and the readiness of its armed forces to defend the nation’s borders against any form of aggression.

During the session, the Senate paid tribute to the courage, professionalism, and sacrifices made by Pakistan’s military and law enforcement agencies. Their unwavering vigilance and dedication in securing the country’s frontiers were acknowledged as critical in maintaining national security amid increasing tensions. This recognition reflects the broader public sentiment that values the armed forces’ role in preserving peace and stability within Pakistan.

The Senate also reflected on Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Afghanistan, emphasizing the significant economic, social, and security challenges Pakistan has endured over the past four decades. Hosting millions of Afghan refugees, extending humanitarian aid, and actively supporting peace initiatives have been central to Pakistan’s foreign policy approach towards its neighbor. However, these efforts have come at a considerable cost to Pakistan’s own development and internal security, a point the resolution underscored with deep regret.

Despite Pakistan’s continued goodwill, the Senate expressed disappointment over the apparent lack of reciprocal cooperation from Afghanistan. The resolution pointed to ongoing hostile rhetoric, repeated cross-border violations, and the persistent presence of anti-Pakistan militant groups operating from Afghan soil. Such actions have created a troubling pattern that undermines bilateral agreements and threatens regional stability.

In response to these challenges, the Senate demanded that the Afghan Taliban government immediately halt all aggressive activities, prevent the use of Afghan territory for terrorist operations against Pakistan, and comply with international obligations to maintain peaceful relations. The resolution also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to constructive dialogue and regional peace, while cautioning that patience should not be mistaken for weakness or an inability to respond decisively if provoked further.

Furthermore, the Senate called on the international community to pay close attention to these developments and urged Afghan authorities to adhere strictly to international norms to avoid further destabilization of the region. This appeal highlights Pakistan’s desire for a peaceful neighborhood but also signals the seriousness of the current security concerns.

Concluding the proceedings, the Senate declared its unity beyond political affiliations in defending Pakistan’s sovereignty and fully supported all necessary measures taken by the government to protect the country’s territorial integrity and national honor. This resolution comes amid escalating tensions along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, where recent weeks have seen a resurgence of security challenges, making the Senate’s firm stance both timely and significant.
