Khawaja Asif Warns of Open Conflict Amid Rising Border Tensions with Afghan Taliban

Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif has issued a stern warning following recent unprovoked firing by Afghan Taliban forces across multiple locations along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Expressing deep frustration over the escalating hostilities, Asif emphasized that Pakistan’s tolerance has reached its breaking point, signaling that the situation is now on the brink of open warfare.

Addressing the issue with resolute language, the minister highlighted the resilience and determination of Pakistan’s armed forces in countering what he described as aggression backed by India through the Taliban regime. He underscored that Pakistan’s military is not a foreign entity but a neighbor intimately familiar with the region’s dynamics and limits. This proximity, he suggested, gives Pakistan a strategic advantage in responding decisively to any threats.

In a series of pointed remarks, Khawaja Asif accused the Taliban, post-NATO withdrawal, of transforming Afghanistan into a stronghold influenced heavily by Indian interests. He claimed that the Taliban have become a conduit for global terrorism, harboring militants from various parts of the world and exporting instability beyond their borders. This, the Defence Minister, has severely undermined regional peace and security.

Despite Pakistan’s repeated efforts to maintain peaceful relations and stability along the border, Asif lamented that the Taliban regime has increasingly acted as a proxy for India, exacerbating tensions and provoking conflict. He praised the courage and effectiveness of Pakistan’s armed forces in delivering a robust response to these provocations, asserting that the enemy’s defeat is inevitable with divine support.

The Defence Minister’s remarks come at a time when cross-border skirmishes have intensified, raising concerns about a potential escalation into full-scale conflict. His statements reflect the growing impatience within Pakistan’s leadership regarding the security challenges posed by the Taliban’s actions and the perceived interference of external actors in Afghanistan’s affairs.

As the situation unfolds, Islamabad remains vigilant, with military and diplomatic channels closely monitoring developments. The Defence Minister’s declaration serves as a clear message that Pakistan is prepared to defend its sovereignty and respond firmly to any aggression emanating from across the border.
