LAHORE: In light of the ongoing tense circumstances along Pakistan’s western frontier, the Punjab Police has escalated its security protocols throughout the province ahead of the second Friday prayers of Ramadan. Authorities have implemented enhanced security strategies to uphold peace and stability during this sensitive period, ensuring that worshippers and the general public remain safe amid heightened regional uncertainties.
Inspector General (IG) Punjab, Rao Abdul Kareem, has issued directives to all regional and district police commanders, urging them to maintain the highest level of alertness given the current internal security challenges facing the country. The police spokesperson confirmed that extensive security arrangements have been activated across major urban centers and districts deemed sensitive due to their strategic importance or previous security incidents.
The IG emphasized the critical need for vigilance against potential threats, instructing officers to closely monitor activities of terrorists, troublemakers, and any suspicious individuals who might pose a risk during the holy month of Ramadan. He reaffirmed the solidarity of Punjab Police with Pakistan’s armed forces and other security agencies, highlighting their collective commitment to safeguarding the nation. “Every member of Punjab Police stands united with our brave armed forces and security agencies to protect the country and its citizens,” he remarked.
Security measures have been notably intensified around mosques and other religious venues where Friday prayers are held, reflecting the authorities’ focus on protecting places of worship from any untoward incidents. Additional personnel have been deployed at police checkpoints, critical infrastructure, government offices, and foreign missions, including Chinese and other international diplomatic facilities, to prevent any security breaches.
Specialized units such as the Dolphin Squad, Police Response Unit (PRU), and Elite Force have been tasked with increasing their patrols around key locations. These units are actively conducting search, sweep, and combing operations throughout the province to detect and neutralize extremist elements, including groups identified by officials as Fitna-ul-Kharij and Fitna-ul-Hindustan. These operations are part of a broader strategy to maintain strict vigilance and preempt any attempts to destabilize the region.
Moreover, the IG Punjab has instructed district administrations, Civil Defence authorities, and Rescue 1122 teams to maintain seamless coordination with law enforcement agencies. This collaboration aims to ensure a rapid and organized response should any emergency arise, thereby minimizing potential harm to civilians and infrastructure.
In his message to the public, the police chief reassured citizens that Punjab Police is fully equipped and prepared to handle any situation that may develop. He also appealed to the public to stay calm and avoid spreading or believing in rumors and unverified information circulating on social media platforms, which could create unnecessary panic.
Officials reiterated that the security framework across Punjab remains robust and that all necessary precautions are being taken to protect the province amid the ongoing national security concerns. The heightened alertness during this critical time underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintain order and safeguard the public throughout Ramadan and beyond.
