President Zardari Affirms Pakistan’s Firm Stand on Peace, Sovereignty, and Regional Stability

President Asif Ali Zardari firmly declared on Thursday that Pakistan will not compromise on its core principles of peace, stability, and the preservation of regional integrity. Speaking amid heightened tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, he underscored that the nation’s sovereignty and territorial borders remain inviolable and that any attempts to undermine them will be met with resolute resistance.

In his statement, the President highlighted the unwavering unity of the Pakistani people alongside their armed forces, describing them as a formidable barrier standing guard against any threats to the country’s integrity. He emphasized that Pakistan’s commitment to peace should not be mistaken for vulnerability or weakness. Instead, he warned that any miscalculation by adversaries who perceive Pakistan’s peaceful stance as a sign of frailty would provoke a swift and decisive response.

President Zardari elaborated on the military’s preparedness, noting that Pakistan’s defense forces possess comprehensive, timely, and effective capabilities to neutralize hostile designs. Their ability to respond decisively ensures that the country remains secure against any external or internal threats. This message comes at a time when regional security dynamics are increasingly complex, and Pakistan’s strategic posture is under close scrutiny.

Addressing the ongoing challenges posed by militant groups, the President pointed to the persistent threat from the Taliban regime and its affiliates, particularly the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Over the past five years, these groups have orchestrated numerous terrorist attacks within Pakistan, despite the country’s continued support and cooperation with Afghanistan. He lamented that despite repeated diplomatic efforts and interventions by allied nations to steer these groups towards peaceful engagement, such initiatives have largely failed to yield positive outcomes.

The President further revealed that this insurgent faction has recently escalated its aggression by crossing international borders, directly challenging Pakistan’s sovereignty. Pakistan, he noted, has exercised restraint by initially pursuing diplomatic channels and seeking assistance from friendly countries to moderate the group’s behavior. However, these efforts have not produced the desired results, compelling Pakistan to adopt a firmer stance.

Reflecting on specific incidents, President Zardari mentioned his stern warnings issued to the Taliban regime following the suicide attack on a mosque in Islamabad on February 8, as well as a subsequent warning delivered on February 22. These communications were intended to convey Pakistan’s intolerance for violence and its readiness to respond to any threats against its citizens and territory.

Concluding his remarks, the President asserted that Pakistan is fully aware of the locations and identities of those who plan, facilitate, and sponsor acts of violence. He made it clear that if bloodshed continues, no responsible party involved in perpetuating such violence will remain beyond the reach of Pakistan’s justice and security apparatus. This statement serves as a strong reminder of Pakistan’s resolve to safeguard its national interests and maintain peace within its borders and the broader region.
