President Asif Ali Zardari reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast commitment to maintaining peace, stability, and the integrity of its borders, making it clear that the country will not yield to any form of intimidation or pressure. Speaking on Thursday, the President addressed the recent tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasizing that the nation and its armed forces remain united and resolute in defending the country’s sovereignty.
He underscored that Pakistan’s desire for peace should never be mistaken for weakness. Instead, any miscalculation in this regard will be met with a firm and decisive response. The President highlighted the comprehensive and timely capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces, which are fully prepared to counter any hostile actions or threats aimed at destabilizing the country or violating its borders.
Delving deeper into the ongoing security challenges, President Zardari pointed out that Pakistan does not seek conflict or confrontation. However, he warned that those who interpret Pakistan’s peaceful intentions as vulnerability will face strong resistance. Over the past five years, the Taliban regime in Afghanistan, described by the President as ungrateful, has repeatedly launched terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil through their affiliates in the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), targeting the very nation that has extended support to them.
Despite numerous diplomatic efforts and interventions by friendly neighboring countries aimed at persuading the Taliban to restrain their violent activities, these attempts have largely failed. The President expressed concern over the Taliban’s recent actions, noting that this criminal faction has crossed international borders and directly challenged Pakistan’s sovereignty, escalating tensions in the region.
Pakistan, acting responsibly on the international stage, has consistently utilized diplomatic channels and sought assistance from allied nations to encourage moderation within the Taliban ranks. Unfortunately, these efforts have not yielded meaningful progress. President Zardari recalled issuing stern warnings to the Taliban regime following the devastating suicide attack at an Islamabad mosque on February 8, and reiterated this firm stance again on February 22, signaling zero tolerance for such acts of terror.
He further asserted that Pakistan is fully aware of the locations and identities of those orchestrating, facilitating, and sponsoring violence against the country. The President made it clear that if the bloodshed persists, no responsible party involved in these hostile activities will remain beyond the reach of Pakistan’s response. This declaration sends a strong message that Pakistan remains vigilant and prepared to protect its people and territory at all costs.
