Pakistan Strikes Back: Over 70 Afghan Taliban Killed in Response to Border Attacks

The Pakistan Army launched a decisive and robust counter-operation against the Afghan Taliban following a series of unprovoked attacks along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. Under the codename Operation Ghazab – lil-Haqq, the military successfully neutralized at least 72 Taliban fighters and inflicted injuries on more than 120 others. This swift retaliation came after the Afghan Taliban initiated hostile fire across multiple locations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, prompting Pakistan to take immediate action to defend its sovereignty.

During the operation, Pakistani forces managed to completely dismantle 16 Taliban posts, capturing five of them intact. The offensive also resulted in the destruction of over 36 enemy tanks, along with several artillery guns and armored personnel carriers (APCs). The Taliban fighters, overwhelmed by the counter-assault, abandoned numerous positions and hideouts, retreating under heavy pressure. This ground success was complemented by the Pakistan Air Force, which conducted targeted airstrikes that obliterated key Taliban infrastructure, including battalion and sector headquarters, as well as ammunition depots. In a symbolic gesture of reclaiming control, Pakistani forces hoisted the national flag at seven previously Taliban-held posts.

It is important to note that the Afghan Taliban also attempted to use quadcopters to launch attacks during the confrontation. However, Pakistan’s security forces successfully intercepted and shot down all such drones, preventing any damage or intelligence breaches. The military’s response was highly selective and precise, focusing on Taliban strongholds to minimize collateral damage while maximizing operational effectiveness.

Following their defeat in direct military engagements, the Afghan Taliban reportedly shifted tactics by targeting civilian populations in the border regions. In Bajaur district, mortar shells landed in residential areas, injuring five people, including three women. This escalation underscores the volatile security situation along the border and the Taliban’s desperation after suffering significant losses.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a statement condemning the Taliban’s unprovoked aggression, describing it as a grave miscalculation. The statement emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces responded swiftly and decisively to the attacks, delivering a strong and punitive blow to Taliban forces operating in key border sectors such as Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur districts. Early assessments indicate that the Taliban suffered heavy casualties and substantial damage to their military capabilities during the exchange.

In reaffirming its commitment to national security, the ministry declared that Pakistan will continue to take all necessary measures to protect its territorial integrity and ensure the safety of its citizens. This firm stance reflects the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards any cross-border aggression and its resolve to maintain peace and stability in the region.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Pakistan’s security forces conducted a follow-up operation in Zhob district of Balochistan, targeting militants linked to the group Fitna al Khwarij. This operation came after an intelligence-based raid a day earlier that resulted in the elimination of eight militants. The subsequent sweep involved tracking suspected fighters across multiple routes, culminating in a fierce gun battle that led to the deaths of ten more militants. The military described these militants as being sponsored by external forces, highlighting ongoing efforts to combat terrorism within Pakistan’s borders.

These coordinated military actions demonstrate Pakistan’s proactive approach to countering threats both along its western frontier and within its internal security landscape. The recent operations send a clear message to hostile elements that any attempts to destabilize the country will be met with overwhelming force and determination.
