Pakistan Strikes Back: Over 70 Afghan Taliban Killed in Response to Border Attacks

In a robust and swift military response, Pakistan’s armed forces have dealt a significant blow to the Afghan Taliban following a series of unprovoked attacks along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border. The operation, named Ghazab – lil-Haqq, resulted in the deaths of at least 72 Taliban fighters and left more than 120 injured. This decisive action underscores Pakistan’s firm stance on protecting its territorial sovereignty and ensuring the safety of its citizens amid escalating cross-border tensions.

The Pakistan Army launched a comprehensive counter-offensive targeting multiple Taliban positions. During the operation, 16 Taliban posts were completely destroyed, with five others captured intact. The offensive also saw the destruction of over 36 enemy tanks, artillery guns, and armored personnel carriers (APCs), forcing the Taliban to retreat hastily and abandon several strategic posts and hideouts. This ground assault was complemented by air strikes carried out by the Pakistan Air Force, which targeted and demolished key Taliban infrastructure including battalion and sector headquarters, as well as ammunition depots. In a symbolic gesture of reclaiming control, Pakistani forces hoisted the national flag at seven captured Afghan posts.

Security officials revealed that the Afghan Taliban attempted to launch attacks using quadcopters, but these unmanned aerial vehicles were intercepted and shot down by Pakistani forces before causing any damage. The military’s response was highly selective and precise, focusing on Taliban strongholds to minimize collateral damage. However, following their defeat on the battlefield, the Taliban reportedly shifted tactics by targeting civilian areas. In Bajaur, mortar shelling injured five people, including three women, highlighting the ongoing threat to local populations in border regions.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting condemned the Taliban’s actions, describing their initial aggression as a grave miscalculation. The statement emphasized that Pakistan’s security forces responded promptly and effectively to the provocations along multiple points in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The ministry highlighted that the Taliban’s unprovoked firing was met with a strong and punitive response in key sectors such as Chitral, Khyber, Mohmand, Kurram, and Bajaur districts. Early assessments indicate that the Taliban suffered heavy casualties and significant losses in military equipment during the clashes.

In addition to the border confrontations, Pakistan’s military continued its counter-terrorism efforts within its own territory. Security forces conducted a follow-up sanitization operation in Zhob district, Balochistan, killing 10 militants linked to the Fitna al Khwarij group. This operation followed an intelligence-driven raid the previous day that neutralized eight militants. The military tracked and engaged suspected fighters over multiple routes, culminating in a fierce gun battle that resulted in the elimination of the militants. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) described the neutralized militants as Indian-sponsored, underscoring the complex regional dynamics at play.

Pakistan’s firm response to both external aggression and internal threats reflects its ongoing commitment to maintaining national security and stability. The military’s actions send a clear message that any attempts to undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty will be met with decisive force. As tensions along the border remain high, the government has reiterated its resolve to take all necessary measures to protect its citizens and uphold the country’s territorial integrity.
