Islamabad Red Zone Sealed; Alternate Traffic Routes Announced

Islamabad officials have implemented a strict traffic plan, sealing off the Red Zone and Extended Red Zone entirely to all vehicular movement. The Expressway stretch from Korral to Zero Point will remain closed, while Srinagar Highway may experience periodic closures.

Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the capital via any route during this period, with transporters strongly advised to avoid Islamabad. To facilitate traffic flow, alternate routes have been designated for commuters.

Travelers from sectors G-5, G-6, G-7, F-6, and F-7 en route to Rawalpindi should use Margalla Road and 9th Avenue. Those moving from Faisal Avenue toward Zero Point will be rerouted onto 9th Avenue. If the Zero Point to Korral Chowk section closes, drivers can take Srinagar Highway to 9th Avenue, then proceed via Stadium Road to Murree Road through Chandni Chowk, continuing on Rawal Road to Korral.

In the event of a closure on Club Road from Park Road, traffic will be diverted toward Tramri Chowk. Commuters traveling between Bhara Kahu and Rawalpindi are advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road. Meanwhile, those moving between Rawalpindi Saddar and Islamabad can utilize Colonel Sher Khan Road through Fakir Aipi Road or 9th Avenue.

For heavy vehicles traveling from Peshawar to Lahore via GT Road, a detour is advised at Taxila to the Motorway, continuing through Chakri Interchange and Chak Beli Road before reconnecting with GT Road at Rawat. Similarly, traffic from Lahore to Peshawar should follow the reverse path via Rawat, Chak Beli Road, and Chakri Interchange toward the Motorway and Taxila.
