In Lahore, a woman was remanded into police custody for five days on Friday in connection with the alleged murder of her three young children in the Achhra area. The decision was made by Judicial Magistrate Irshad Hussain Sabzwari at the Model Town Kutchery court, who approved the police request while rejecting an initial plea for a 14-day remand.
The accused, Rida Fatima, was presented before the court under strict security measures. Authorities have registered a case against her regarding the deaths of her three minor children, which has attracted significant public attention following the release of closed-circuit television footage.
The footage reportedly shows Rida Fatima leaving her residence shortly after the incident, walking through a street in the Achhra locality. Investigators revealed that she initially tried to tamper with the crime scene before returning to the neighborhood, where she allegedly sought help from residents to contact emergency services.
Post-mortem examinations on the victims have been completed, and their bodies were handed over to family members. The children—five-year-old Mominah Batool, four-year-old Momin Raza, and 18-month-old Amma Habiba—were transported to their ancestral village in Jhang district for burial. Funeral prayers are expected to be held there before the interment.
A senior Lahore police official emphasized that the investigation is ongoing with a focus on gathering solid evidence to ensure the accused faces appropriate legal consequences. Authorities confirmed that all available forensic and witness evidence will be presented in court as the case proceeds.
