A severe gas leak in the Hattar Industrial Estate ignited a large fire, resulting in the deaths of a woman and a child, while four additional individuals sustained injuries. The blaze reportedly began after a rupture in the main gas pipeline, rapidly escalating into a significant inferno.
The explosion-like noise from the fire alarmed residents in the vicinity, causing widespread panic. Emergency responders, including rescue teams, police, the District Police Officer (DPO), and the Deputy Commissioner, promptly arrived at the scene to initiate firefighting and rescue operations.
The DPO of Haripur confirmed that the fire originated from a gas pipeline leak and quickly intensified. Efforts by the fire brigade and rescue personnel are ongoing to control the situation, with the affected area cordoned off to prevent further harm.
Authorities evacuated nearby homes as a precaution and closed the road leading to Hattar to all traffic. The gas supply from Wah Cantt has been suspended to mitigate risks, and evacuation of adjacent labor quarters is underway amid concerns about the fire spreading to nearby factories.
Investigations into the cause and full details of the incident are currently in progress and will be disclosed once available. The incident has raised significant safety concerns within the industrial zone, prompting heightened vigilance among officials and residents alike.
