Karachi Faces Rising Heat as Temperatures Reach 38.5°C

Karachi continued to endure intense heat on Saturday, with the maximum temperature reaching 38.5°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD). The agency has issued warnings that the heat is expected to intensify starting Sunday.

Temperatures in the city are forecasted to climb to 40°C on Sunday and potentially reach 41°C by Monday, while hot and dry weather conditions are predicted to persist throughout this period. In a significant development, PMD Deputy Director Anjum Nazir Zaigham alerted the public about the impending heatwave and emphasized the need for precautionary measures to safeguard vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and animals, as well as valuables.

Zaigham indicated that the heatwave conditions are likely to continue in Karachi until May 3, with sustained high temperatures and dry weather across the metropolis. Residents have been advised to minimize unnecessary outdoor activities, especially during the peak afternoon hours, and to take appropriate safety steps to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat.

Meanwhile, westerly winds are expected to influence the region after this heatwave phase, potentially providing some temporary relief by slightly lowering temperatures and reducing the heat’s intensity. However, the overall outlook for May and June remains concerning, as severe heatwaves are anticipated across parts of Sindh, southern Punjab, and Balochistan, with temperatures expected to remain above average levels.
