RJ Mitte, Breaking Bad actor known as Flynn, dies at 34

Actor RJ Mitte, who played Walter White Jr, known as Flynn, in the TV drama Breaking Bad, has died at the age of 34. The talent management agency that represented him confirmed the death in a statement, which said it happened in Brownsville, Texas.

The statement gave no further information about the circumstances of his death. His representative described him as a beloved actor, philanthropist and passionate disability rights advocate, and expressed deep sadness at what they called a tragic passing.

Co-stars and colleagues pay tribute to Mitte

Bryan Cranston, who played Mitte’s on-screen father, Walter White, posted a tribute on Instagram. He wrote, “I’ll miss you, son.”

Aaron Paul, who played Jesse Pinkman, said he loved his friend and that he would be missed. Dean Norris, who played Hank Schrader, recalled looking out for Mitte when he was a young actor and said he would be greatly missed.

Actor Marlee Matlin said her heart was shattered and that nobody could ever match Mitte. Lea Thompson described him as joyful, professional and kind, adding that his work had inspired many people.

From Breaking Bad to disability rights advocacy

Mitte became widely recognised for his role in Breaking Bad, which aired from 2008 to 2013. He appeared in 56 episodes of the crime drama, which followed a chemistry teacher who turns to making and selling methamphetamine after receiving a cancer diagnosis. The cast later shared a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2014 for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series.

Beyond the series, Mitte appeared in television productions including Switched at Birth, Now Apocalypse and The Guardians of Justice. His film credits included The Recall, The Oak Room and Triumph, released in 2021.

Mitte was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of three. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, he moved to Los Angeles in 2006 to pursue acting. He became a prominent voice for disability representation and inclusion in the entertainment industry, serving as an ambassador for United Cerebral Palsy and Shriners Children’s and as president of the Mitte Foundation.

Cause of death unconfirmed as investigation continues

A celebrity news website said a county official had confirmed the death and that an investigation was ongoing. Citing unnamed sources, the website said Mitte had died by suicide, but the cause of death has not been officially confirmed.

The same website also reported that Mitte had been engaged to Kennedy Suarez since proposing to her in 2025.
