Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a temporary gas shutdown in Karachi for repair work on the 24-inch Sher Shah mainline. According to the company, the shutdown will start at 10pm on Saturday and run until 9am on Sunday.
SSGC said gas pressure may drop in several areas if the shutdown is extended, and it has warned that any extension could affect supply in those localities.

The company named a number of areas that could be hit, including the following:
- Baldia Town, Ittehad Town, Saeedabad, Naval Colony, Musharraf Colony and Mawach Goth
- Orangi Town, Gulshan-e-Bahar, Gulshan-e-Zia, Sector 16 and Ghaziabad

Minister orders SSGCL to curb gas losses
Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik has directed the board of Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) to develop a comprehensive strategy and sustainable business model. The directive aims to make the company financially viable, with a particular focus on controlling unaccounted-for-gas (UFG).
Malik chaired a meeting in Karachi with the SSGCL board chairman, directors, managing director and senior management to review performance, achievements, operational challenges and reform priorities. Management said UFG had fallen by about 57% in volumetric terms, pointing to significant improvements in the gas distribution system.
The meeting was also told there was no gas load-shedding for K-Electric, industrial consumers or fertiliser plants, while domestic consumers were receiving gas three times a day.
