Pakistan’s Panda Bond Marks New Era in Financial Ties with China

Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Saturday hailed the issuance of Pakistan’s panda bond as a significant milestone in the country’s financial collaboration with China. He emphasized that this development ushers in a new chapter in the economic relationship between the two nations.

In a discussion with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Aurangzeb highlighted that the panda bond provides Pakistan with its first-ever access to the world’s second-largest capital market. This achievement, he noted, demonstrates growing international trust in Pakistan’s economic policies and reform initiatives.

He described the panda bond issuance as a pivotal event that signals the start of enhanced financial cooperation between Pakistan and China. Notably, nearly 25% of trade between the two countries is already conducted in Chinese yuan and renminbi, reflecting increasing financial integration.

Looking ahead, Aurangzeb pointed out that the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will emphasize business collaboration, industrial partnerships, and wider economic benefits. He added that both countries share aligned priorities in expanding trade, attracting investment, and fostering sustainable economic growth.

Despite facing economic challenges, the finance minister stated that key macroeconomic indicators are improving and overall stability has been maintained. He also underscored that ongoing reforms in taxation, energy, and digital governance are bolstering investor confidence and strengthening the country’s economic foundation.
