A suspected mobile phone thief was left dangling from a moving train in India’s Bihar state after passengers caught his hand during an alleged snatching attempt at Shivnarayanpur railway station. He was later arrested.
The incident took place on October 12 at the station in Bhagalpur district. A clip shared on social media shows the man running to keep up with the train while hanging outside a coach.
Reports say the suspect tried to grab a phone from a passenger seated near an open window as the train pulled away. Passengers then seized his hand through the window, holding him outside the carriage as the train picked up speed.
Man falls near platform end and flees
Footage shows him struggling alongside the coach while people on the platform watched. Near the end of the platform he fell to the ground. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel reached the scene and began arranging medical help, but the suspect reportedly got up and ran off before he could be taken to hospital.
Joint team traces suspect to Ghogha station
After the video spread online, railway authorities opened an inquiry to identify him. A joint team from the RPF and the Crime Intelligence Branch in Malda arrested 41-year-old Mahesh Das, a resident of Ghogha Bazaar, at Ghogha railway station on October 14.
RPF Inspector Bechan Mishra said the suspect was identified during the investigation. He was then handed over to the Government Railway Police in Bhagalpur for further legal action.
