Traffic officers in Hawally, Kuwait City, have started immobilising vehicles parked illegally or blocking traffic on main and internal roads. The move is part of efforts to improve traffic flow and curb haphazard parking, according to a security source.
The source said officers are issuing traffic citations and fitting wheel clamps to offending vehicles. Notices left on the cars tell owners to visit the Hawally Governorate Traffic Patrol Department to complete the steps needed to remove the clamps. The source warned that tampering with or removing clamps could expose owners to legal action.
Campaign targets roads near schools and government offices
The campaign aims to stop obstruction on internal roads leading to schools and government offices, where vehicle and visitor traffic can be heavy. Owners must visit the relevant traffic authority and pay the prescribed fine before a clamp can be removed.
