US President Donald Trump singled out Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham during a political rally in Youngstown, Ohio, ahead of the US midterm elections. He made the remarks while speaking on behalf of Republican candidates.
Addressing supporters at the Covelli Centre during a surprise stop on his political road trip, Trump referred to the size of the WNBA player’s lips. He also wondered whether her attendance would bring more crowds to the event.
Trump’s remarks on Cunningham’s looks and value
“You, I like Sophie. You got a lot of guys want to go and look at her. She’s a beauty,” Trump told the crowd. “You’re not supposed to be saying that anymore,” he added.
Playfully backtracking, he joked that as a politician he wanted to take the comment back. He said talking about a woman’s beauty was usually the high point of a politician’s career in today’s political landscape. He then suggested that Cunningham would be more useful to the team for attendance than for points.
Cunningham’s free agency after Fever playoff loss
Cunningham closed out the 2026 WNBA season alongside teammate Caitlin Clark with the Indiana Fever. The team then lost a first-round playoff series to Las Vegas.
Cunningham is set to become an unrestricted free agent and is looking for a new team. She turns 30 next month.
