Kuwait Airways cancels Riyadh flights amid airport closure

Kuwait Airways has cancelled two scheduled flights between Kuwait and Riyadh after the Saudi capital’s airport was closed amid heightened security concerns. The cancelled services are flight KU775 from Kuwait to Riyadh and its return leg, KU776, both scheduled for Saturday, October 10, 2026.

The national carrier urged affected passengers to check their flight status regularly. It said notifications and text messages would be sent to the mobile numbers registered with their bookings, and advised travellers to follow its official channels before setting off.

Saudi conferences to proceed despite airport attacks

Organisers of two major Saudi energy and investment conferences said their events will go ahead this month and gave visitors assurances on security. The move follows missile attacks on Riyadh’s airport that left four people dead and an airliner heavily damaged earlier this week.

The attacks caused widespread flight disruptions, with some travellers taking land routes or indirect flights. The UK, France and Germany have warned their citizens to avoid Riyadh.

Riyadh is still pressing ahead with plans to host global events and attract investment, even as an escalating war with the Iran-backed Houthis in neighbouring Yemen has seen the kingdom attacked dozens of times over recent weeks.

World Petroleum Congress to go ahead as planned

Organisers of the World Petroleum Congress, which will host top global oil executives and policymakers from Sunday to Thursday, said the event would proceed with foreign leaders and ministers attending, according to an email sent to delegates. The email said, “Your comfort is our priority,” and noted that alternative routes to Riyadh, including a four-hour drive from Dammam on the kingdom’s eastern coast, were available.

Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said on Friday that he would not fly to Riyadh for the International Energy Forum Ministerial Meeting, an event on the congress’s sidelines. He said he would take part via video link instead.
